Dojodai is a Karate and Aikido association founded in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in the fall of 2008.
Our main objective is to make martial arts both logistically and financially accessible to a maximum number of kids.
Our secondary objective is to make martial arts available in the school to eliminate the logistical cost of having the parents bring the kids to us, instead we go to them at their schools. Today we are training more than 1,611 kids (516 girls and 1,095 boys during the 2017-18 academic school year), in 12 elementary, middle and high school in Port-au-Prince's metropolitan area.
On top of making the classes available to the kids at a fee of less than 8 USD per month, and having successfully launched the "Girls don't pay" initiative in 2014, we provide martial arts uniforms, we organize several activities, summer camps, field trips, seminars with foreign and local martial arts experts and we also organize 4 major tournaments for them every year.
This year, our 4 tournaments will be held on March 16, 23 and 24 - May 4th, July 6 and 7th.
We need your help to make them happen.
Sustaining this system is very expensive and without regular support, it is absolutely impossible in a country such as this where very little is available and accessible. But, seeing the potential that lies within each of these kids, the empowerment that comes with teaching Karate to girls and see them win at championships and gain confidence in themselves, give us the courage to continue our part of the work. The other part is up to you because you may not be physically there yet, but by donating you can have a considerable impact in the lives of the kids we teach. I then leave you with this quote that I have really come to like: What you keep is lost for all time, what you give is yours for ever.- EE Schmitt
Thanks again.
